Surrounded by rolling tea fields and mountain views, you will continue to Huntingdon House, your elegant home for the next two nights.
Your stay here offers a refined and slower-paced contrast to safari life. Enjoy guided walks through the tea and coffee plantations, learn about the estate’s production process, visit the coffee factory, and take part in tea tastings featuring some of Malawi’s finest blends. Guests can also relax on the lawns, play croquet, enjoy the gardens, or simply take in the peaceful surroundings.
For memorable views, head to the estate’s picnic spot for sundowners overlooking the valleys and distant mountains. Today you will be transferred to the banks of the Shire River, where you will be met by the staff of Kuthengo Camp and transferred by boat to your home for the next four nights. On arrival, settle into your room and enjoy time to relax before heading out that afternoon on your first safari activity to explore the wildlife-rich landscapes of Liwonde. Return to camp in time to freshen up before an al fresco dinner and stories around the campfire.
Rise early for your morning activity, choosing from expertly guided game drives, walking safaris, or scenic boat safaris along the river. After your adventure, cool off in the swimming pool, enjoy birdwatching from your private deck, or simply unwind before lunch.
Afternoons are ideal for a siesta, reading by the pool, or relaxing before setting out on your evening safari as the light softens across the floodplains. Return to camp for dinner beneath the stars and another peaceful night in the bush.
Liwonde National Park covers approximately 550 square kilometres of diverse wilderness along the Shire River, south of Lake Malawi. Often regarded as one of Malawi’s finest safari destinations, it combines beautiful river scenery, rich biodiversity, and relatively low visitor numbers.
The park is known for excellent wildlife viewing, including one of the country’s most important elephant populations, along with hippo, crocodile, buffalo, zebra, antelope, and thriving birdlife with more than 300 recorded species. Predators, including lion, cheetah, and African wild dog, have also been successfully reintroduced.
Liwonde’s revival has been driven by the conservation work of African Parks, whose efforts in anti-poaching, habitat restoration, and species reintroductions have transformed the park into one of Africa’s emerging conservation success stories.
