Best Time To Visit Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Maasai Mara is a year-round destination, but the experience changes with the seasons:

  • January to Febraury: The weather is dry and cool. This is a great time, as you will have excellent visibility and plenty of opportunities to spot the incredible wildlife. 
  • April to May: The long rainy season transforms the reserve into a lush paradise, ideal for birdwatching and capturing stunning landscapes. less crowds and cheaper accommodations rates. But wildlife may be harder to find and some roads harder ro drive on.
  • June: The long rains give way to cloudy, cooler weather.
  • July to October: Peak safari season coincides with the Great Migration, offering dramatic river crossings and abundant wildlife activity. This is also when its the busiest and more expensive for accommodations. 
  • November to December: Cloudy skies and rain showers in the afternoons. Temperatures are still high, although the mornings can be rather chilly. christmas and New Years are busy and the accommodations prices are more expensive.
