Who We Are

Karoline Hood

Karoline Hood has been captivated by African wildlife since childhood, drawing inspiration from her hero, Sir David Attenborough. As she grew older, her concerns deepened for the plight of wildlife on the brink of extinction, the destruction of habitats, and the legacy being left for future generations.

In 2008, Karoline began traveling across Africa and volunteering with various wildlife conservation organizations dedicated to protecting wildlife and preserving their natural environments.

Her passion for wildlife led her to create Warriors of Malama, a blog inspired by the Hawaiian word Malama, which means “to take care of, care for, protect, and preserve.” Through this platform, Karoline travels the world, interviewing everyday heroes from diverse backgrounds who are united in their mission to protect wildlife and natural habitats. She also launched a podcast to spotlight individuals on the front lines of conservation, sharing their stories, challenges, and triumphs.

Karoline’s profound love for Africa—its people, culture, and wildlife—motivated her to establish King Salama Safaris. The name Salama means “safe” in Swahili and “safety, peaceful” in Arabic, reflecting the importance of creating and preserving spaces where wildlife can thrive.

As well as being a woman and minority-owned business.
